Air Traffic Control

Atom™ is an automated solution that provides Air Traffic Control (ATC) personnel with the tools necessary to safely, quickly and efficiently to do their jobs. Atom™ is in operation at multiple facilities from small Towers to a large Area Control Center that includes an Oceanic / Procedural Area Control Center and also operates in a range of facilities in between including Terminal Approach Control. Atom™’s capabilities are well described under Flight Data Management and it shares the common functions across all ATC/ATM users and simultaneously provides unique functions for specific facilities. A good example of this is that a single flight plan can be created and distributed in the system, typically when received from the AFTN, but could also be locally entered or created automatically from a Repetitive Flight Plan. This single flight plan can then be seamlessly used to provide strip(s) of the location-specific flight formats that are unique to the Tower, Approach Control, ACC, Oceanic / Procedural Area Control Center and for use by Air Traffic Management (ATM).

This allows the same information to be entered once, yet used everywhere, and any change made by any users are distributed and re-displayed in the appropriate local context. For example, a departure time entered at the Tower can update the Oceanic/Procedural Center so that the time in the Air Traffic Services Interfacility Data Coordination (AIDC) outbound coordination message is recalculated and updated. Conversely, an oceanic position report with an updated time can cause a new time for arrival at the airport to be calculated and also displayed on the passenger screens. Simultaneously, all update times for the route of flight are available to ATM.
