Air Defense
The Air Defense office can use Atom™ effectively for multiple purposes. Atom™’s ability to relate 4D flight trajectories to airspace structure s is a key feature that provides value to Air Defense and military users. By building on the Advanced Flight Data Management functions discussed under Air Traffic Control (ATC), Atom™ provides the following additional features to Air Defense users:
-
Receive ATC aircraft information and 4D trajectory data for known flights operating in the ATC/ATM system. Use the information within military systems to identify unknown or suspect flights that are deviating from their filed route of flight.
-
Atom™ information about known air traffic can assist Air Defense in avoiding unintentional interference with civilian air traffic by military activities.
-
Atom™ provides tools to visualize the air traffic picture against airspace structures such as airports, fixes, navaids, routes and military airspace reservations.
-
Use NOTAM_Bene to create complex ad-hoc airspace reservations for NOTAM publication.
-
Use NOTAM_Bene to visualize complex NOTAMs automatically as it is being written on NOTAM_Bene map display.
-
Allows NOTAMs to be checked visually for operational suitability and for typographical errors before transmission.
-
NOTAM_Bene database includes all established Special Use Airspaces for map display.

Interfaces to other systems:
The Air Defense user can receive flight intent and position data on known flights from the Area Control Center, the Oceanic / Procedural Area Control Center and Air Traffic Management.
The Atom™ advantage:
Atom™’s ability to generate 4D trajectories from flight data allows the Air Defense office to fully understand the air traffic situation both from a typical air defense standpoint and to keep military operations from inadvertently interfering with civil air traffic. NOTAM_Bene provides advanced text-to-graphics features to reduce errors in both creating and processing NOTAMs.
