Academic Facilities

Academic facilities that study flight movements through airspace can take advantage of Atom™’s powerful flight data processing and visualization tools.

With its ATC operational, live-traffic background, Atom™ can be used as a full-featured ICAO-compliant system for studies and investigation of air traffic movements through airspace volumes.

By building on the Advanced FDM functions, Atom™ provides the following additional features to directly benefit the Academic Facility.

  • ICAO flight data message processing and playback of simulated or recorded live datasets. NAS and ETMS formats also available.

  • Full route expansion with four-dimensional trajectory generation including fix-time estimation.

  • Airspace structure database to understand fix, airway, airspace and other relationships with flight trajectories.

  • Aircraft types automatically looked up in aircraft database used for study of aircraft type information such as emissions or passenger/cargo capacities.

  • ICAO airline codes automatically looked up in airline database for study of airline industry issues.

  • Situation display shows air traffic and airspace structures and allows researchers to visualize interactions among flights and airspaces.

  • Conflict prediction software shows effect of separation changes or control actions.

  • The fast- and freeze- time mode of the situation display can be used as a research tool to easily look at past, present and future outcomes.

  • Atom™ uses a relational DBMS and can export datasets in various formats for study using with other analysis tools.

  • Recorded messages live playback optimized through auto-correction of common errors in messages.

Since the system is PC-based, and familiar to many users, set-up, administration and training time is reduced, and Atom™ can be run on a laptop PC.

Interfaces to other systems:

For research, Atom™ can be used offline with recorded live ICAO flight data messages or simulated data. Airspace structure data can be imported from ARINC 424 Standard Jeppesen or NGIA DAFIF formats. Atom™ can export data in numerous formats for use in other software packages.

The Atom™ advantage:

Atom™ provides a world-scale flight data text-based and visual analysis tool with an operational pedigree with numerous data source and data output capabilities.
