Advanced Flight Data Management (FDM)

Atom™ is an automated solution that provides Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Air Traffic Management (ATM) personnel with the tools necessary to safely, quickly and efficiently to do their jobs.

Much more than a simple message processor, Atom™ is built from the ground up around a world-scale flight data processor that manages the key information needed and maintained by ATC/ATM and can also be used and shared in real-time with the many operational, business and passenger users of the same up-to-date flight information, especially at the airport.

Atom™’s Advanced FDM provides ATC/ATM with the following features:

• AFTN/ICAO message send/receive with auto-correction.

• Validation of messages using fix, airway, airport, airline, and aircraft databases.

• Creation, update, and distribution of flight database.

• Electronic flight data display, user configurable.

• Route expansion with determination of distance flown and fix-time estimation.

• Airport arrival/departure time calculation.

• Ad-hoc dynamic sector boundaries.

• Automatic determination and insertion of boundary crossings.

• 4-Dimensional (4D) trajectory generation using earth-centered coordinate system.

• Automatic SSR beacon code assignment and distribution locally or via AFTN based on 4D trajectory.

• Flight strips in any format or color.

• ICAO message generation from current flight database.

• Automatic AFTN address generation for adjacent facilities using flights’ 4-D trajectory.

• Real-time export of aircraft data and 4-D trajectory data to all users, e.g., situation display and conflict prediction functions, en route/airport demand billing, en route/tower logs & statistics, passenger arrival/departure screens (filtered data), airport departments concerned with flight operations.

• Message logging and replay.

Advanced FDM provides ATC/ATM Supervisors with the additional features:

• Using dynamic sector boundaries, the ATC Supervisor can use real-time data to see future sector loading (airspace modeling can do this with replayed data).

• Compatible with FAA/ETMS/Eurocontrol air traffic management advanced flow data for advanced planning.

Interfaces to other systems:

• Exchanging flight planning, position and coordination data with other ATC/ATM systems using ICAO messages.

• Sending filtered flight information to the Atom™ Passenger Arrival Departure Screens application.

• Sending full flight information to the Airport Flight Operations Departments.

• GRIB upper winds read from Meteorological systems.
